Text Box: I was just looking out of the window, the sun is low in the blue sky creating long shadows and it is only lunch time. The trees are trying hard to keep the colour on their  leaves knowing they will eventually loose the battle but not until they have had the opportunity to show off the stunning colours they create before the fall. The birds flit around grabbing nuts & berries where they can, showing the beautiful mature feathers they've preened all summer long since leaving their nests in spring, even the dying flowers have magnificent ways of sending their seeds into the air to reproduce again next year. It’s all too easy to ‘batten down the hatches’, turn on the heating and create a long, long winter for ourselves. But with a good woolly jumper, hat & scarf there is so much more to be had from the British autumn. The refreshing wind, mornings damp with dew and even the autumn rain can bring smells and good feelings to send us into winter. Aren’t we lucky to have such defined seasons and…. Isn’t this a beautiful time of year?

Fun News Up-Date
Text Box:                         Easter brought with it the usual egg rolling, egg chucking & hunting all topped
off with beautiful bonnets and lovely weather.  May found us stepping back in time
to medieval days with the   Morlais Commandry. We witnessed real rough camping as
the squires camped in heavy canvas tents, sheepskins for beds and cooked on open
fires. The Lords had a slightly different approach but they said that was their
prerogative! They all showed great skill and strength in the battles they fought,
gave us an insight into training and displayed great humour, even when injured.
During the evening we all had to be on our guard as the Lord took court in the bar.
Penance had to be paid for any misdemeanour as My Lord saw fit and if the poor
victim refused then watch out, they would end up in the stocks the next day after
the beheadings and witch hunts. I think we all had great fun, the weather was
incredibly kind and we are all looking forward to next year when they come again.
                                 Thank you
                            Morlais Commandery!

After all our hard work during the  winter we were very excited to welcome our first visitors of the year to show around & use the new improved shower block. From the comments we have received and from the way they have run during the season (apart from the initial teething problems) I think we can safely say they are a success!

Text Box: The school holidays started off very wet, but in a good way. The weather was fabulous so of course Dave & I took the opportunity to get you suckers (the children that is) involved in some great water games. Its always good to get  your own  back!  Dave, not wanting to be left, out took the plunge into the pond  with some barmy volunteer,  namely Peter from Holland, to rid it of all the weed.  They looked a sight wading  around up to their armpits pulling up great clumps of who knows what from the bottom of the pond with
their feet! Previous rumours have it that a lady sleeps at the bottom of the pond. Check Dave’s face do you think he’s found her?
August brought the much awaited ‘Stew & Stars’ night. Unfortunately our expert & presenter Martin Howells, was taken very ill shortly before the planned weekend. His brother-in-law, John Thomas, very kindly agreed to bring all the prepared material with him and between himself and Dave we were able to work out what we were looking for, which way to look and when. Friday night we all marched up the vineyard and, after a very warming bowl of stew, lay on blankets to view the predicted show of comets. If it weren’t for the clouds we would have seen loads, they were there, honest! But it didn’t really matter, the atmosphere was great, we all had a good time and I think everyone saw at least something.
Thanks to all who came, especially John for stepping in and Martin, we all wish you a continuing recovery to full health, maybe we will see you next year.
Our latest event was in September with the planned arrival of the Scouts. I was surprised that policemen are getting younger but the scouts looked rather grown up but then I discovered they are explorers, ‘Of course!’ I hear you cry? Bet you wouldn’t of known either! Well it was a good job they were all grown up because they had the hugest bit of rope to make a bridge in the play area. Muscles were needed and found. With much heaving, grunting (& other funny noises, origin unknown) the rope was pulled taut, knotted & staked and ‘hey presto’ a bridge was built strong enough to hold the scouts & more… Doesn’t it look great?
We were entertained all weekend by this wonderful group with learning knotting skills and new campfire songs. We shared jacket potatoes & hotdogs and a spark or two from the fire, (it was a bit windy and the fire a little unpredictable but it kept us warm). The scouts are looking for a new project for next year, any ideas?

Text Box: On a personal note
It really has been a great year for us. We have seen Dolbryn go from strength to strength and we couldn’t have done it without all of you! So a big thank you!
If you can’t make it to the fireworks we wish you well over the winter, lets hope it’s not too long and maybe we will see many of you next year. Remember, we open early next year & Dolbryn really looks beautiful covered in snowdrops & daffodils.
Kind regards & best wishes
‘The Spencers’
