New arrivals at Dolbryn

Spring traditionally brings new arrivals. This spring has brought Dave, Bev and family to Dolbryn. We arrived in bits and bobs. Bev and two children first at the end of Feb, enthusiastically followed by Dave in March. Tom, still doing his GCSE’s will arrive in the summer.

February was beautiful. What a lot of snow! Adam (aged 13) and Amelia (aged 10) were delighted, two days at their new school then snowed in. The dogs, Rosie and Moppet, also had a great time although Rosie felt a little past snow fights at the grand age of 14.

We have all been enchanted by the delights that Dolbryn has to offer. Spring is very different in the country. What a pleasure it has been to watch first the snowdrops and daffodils then bluebells and primroses. Trees are bursting to life, nests have been made, eggs hatched and frogs dancing merrily in the ponds. We have seen the return of old faithfuls too. The heron has put in a few appearances and the otter has been spotted once or twice. We can’t wait to see what the next few months have to offer.

All systems go

As new comers to Dolbryn we are very sensitive to the comfort and familiarity that many of our ‘long term’ visitors have found here. We too fell in love with its unspoilt beauty, abundance of nature and the calm and tranquillity. We have no intention of disturbing or changing what is clearly something very unique. But we are eager to up-date the site for your comfort and tame some of the ‘nature’ which has become a little unruly.

To begin with we have resurfaced the courtyard area around the toilets to eliminate the constant wearing of wellies, and are working on easier access to the two camping fields. We are also putting up new rustic style fencing to clearly mark

the boundaries of the water areas for the safety of the children. With children in mind we have now got a small family of ducks and rabbits to feed and pet. They are in a run at the back of the house and hopefully both visitors and animals will enjoy the fuss and company.

We had our first visitors a few weeks ago and opened the barn bar so that we may have a few drinks and get to know each other. The few drinks turned into a few more with loads of laughs thrown in and we eventually wandered home. At three o’clock in the morning we were still freezing cold despite being wrapped around the calor fire all the previous night. We vowed then and there to do something about the heating in the bar, it just wasn’t enough! By the end of the next day Dave had installed a beautiful log burning stove. Our Easter visitors had full benefit of this lovely new feature and we think that they will agree with us in saying it was well worth the money! To complete the new look of the bar we have painted the roof and outsides wall and with the addition of a new coach lamp the place is even more inviting.

Easter was enjoyably busy for us. We had a kids sticky hour in the bar Saturday morning making ‘pine cone animals’, and a treasure hunt on Monday. We all had a great time and hope to do similar things in the future. Dave and I would like to say a big thank you for all the support we have had from family, friends and visitors. You have come and offered encouragement, loyalty, advise and even a little help thrown in. It has been great to know that we are working in the right direction and we’ve got some jobs done a lot quicker.
